ELECTORAL ORGANIZING FELLOW
POSITION SUMMARY: This position will be responsible for implementing Michigan Asian American Progressives’ and Michigan Action’s political and policy program in our targeted neighborhoods this year ahead of the 2020 elections. The Electoral Organizing Fellowship will be responsible for engaging AAPIs around the upcoming election by phone (potentially through face to face conversations) on current issues in their community, the upcoming elections, voter registration and absentee voting. Under the mentorship and supervision of the MAAP/Michigan Action Leadership Team, fellows will be trained to have conversations with people about registering to vote, about what issues matter to them and about getting involved in mobilizing other voters in November.
Additionally Fellows will participate in an ongoing training program that will teach participants how to motivate others toward taking action, learn the history of and challenges facing the social justice movement, and develop a systems-based analysis of the power structures at the local, state, and federal level. Fellowship graduates will be connected with other professional development and job opportunities within the social justice community as Alumni of the program.
Rising Voices of Asian American Families, (RVAAF) a project of Progress Michigan Education Fund, and Michigan Asian American Progressives, (MAAP) a project of Progress Michigan, together are seeking to hire a Digital Organizer (DO) whose time will be split between RVAAF and MAAP.
A DO is integral to identifying our communities and expanding our organizing efforts given the fact that current data significantly undercounts and misidentifies many Asian Americans. A DO will be able to support our data collection and scrubbing work as well as enabling us to organize and identify new research opportunities for the state in the future.
POSITION SUMMARY: The DO will build relationships in and beyond SE MI through a mixture of traditional and digital organizing that’ll emphasize text and social media follow-ups. Much of Rising Voices’ and MAAP’s work is focused on communities with a high percentage of limited-English proficient speakers and those who have not been targeted in past civic engagement efforts.
POSITION SUMMARY: Data Consultant will work to support the data needs of our community-based, volunteer-driven organizations in Michigan. The Consultant would provide immediate data assistance from now until December 31, 2020 for the following organizations:
● Rising Voices of Asian American Families, a project of Progress Michigan Education
● Michigan Asian American Progressives, a project of Progress Michigan
The Data Consultant will provide data/database management & analysis, visualization & reporting, training, developing data-driven recommendations, advising on data collection/reporting procedures, and VAN administration.
